In this post, I'll discuss an issue that sent to us by one of the Galaxy S3 users complaining about a freezing and Google Play Store issue that occur out of the blue. Mostly, the device experience this type of issue if the files and data were outdated or the firmware itself is functioning abnormally that resulted the device to this type of problem. So, if you're a Galaxy S3 user and haven't been experiencing this problem, then, we suggest you to continue reading this post for it might help you once you encounter the same problem in the future. To troubleshoot this issue, follow these methods:

Step 1: Perform battery-pull procedure
More often, hanging or crashing issue is caused by a glitch in the system wherein numerous apps running and the firmware could no longer cater all of it and ended the device to freeze or an error message will eventually pops-up without apparent reason. So, through this method all apps in the background will be closed and the system will be refreshed. Just remove the battery and press and hold the Power button for 10 seconds. After you do so, place it back the batter and power on your device. if the method is not helping, then, jump over to the next step.

Step 2: Delete the System Cache Partition
Sometimes, due to corrupted caches in the directory the device could no longer run smoothly and efficiently. So, this time, what you gonna do is delete all old caches in the system so that newer ones will be replaced in the partition. Nothing to worry about it, all your important files and data saved on your phone will remain intact. Here's how to wipe the system cache partition:

  1. Turn the phone off.
  2. Press and hold the Volume Up, Home and Power buttons at the same time until the phone vibrates.
  3. Let go of the Power button but continue to press and hold the Home and Volume Up buttons until the Android System Recovery screen appears.
  4. Press the Volume Down button to choose 'wipe cache partition.'
  5. Press the Power button to select it.
After the method, try to use again your phone and see if the issue still persists. If it is, move over to the next step.

Step 3: Verify if a culprit is causing the issue by booting it in Safe mode
In this method, we will try to disable temporarily all third-party apps and let the pre-installed ones run in the system. Remember, this method won't fix whatever issues your phone has, instead, it will just give you a clue if one of your downloaded applications is causing the issue. While in this mode and your phone is not anymore freezing or an error message is not appearing, then, obviously a culprit is the reason that this issue occur. The best thing that you can do is find the culprit and uninstall it to fix the problem.
  1. Turn the phone off.
  2. Press and hold the Power and Volume Up buttons until Samsung logo appears.
  3. With the logo on the screen, press and hold the Volume Down button until Safe mode appears in the lower-left corner of the screen.
However, if safe mode still unable to resolve the issue, then your S3 might have a serious firmware issue and the only option that you can do is to perform a reset. Meaning, you have to bring back your device to its factory default. But the downside is, once you perform this method all your important files and data will be deleted, so, before you follow the steps be sure to transfer all of it to your SD card or Personal computer to be more easier for you to restore after the method. Follow these steps to reset your Galaxy S3:
  1. From the Home screen, tap the Menu button.
  2. Choose Settings.
  3. Tap on Accounts tab and choose Backup and reset.
  4. Tap Factory Data Reset.
  5. Tap Reset Device.
  6. Touch Delete All.
