Quick fix on Samsung Galaxy S4 WiFi and 4G icon appears after the update
Well, if you are experiencing this type of problem on your Galaxy S4 after system update, there is a big chance that the files and data of the phone had been updated that resulted these icons to show up without apparent reason. Step 1: Boot in Safe Mode
In this environment, we have to disable temporarily all third-party apps and letting the pre-installed ones run in the system. So, while in this mode, and the icons are not showing, then, there's a chance that one of your downloaded applications is causing the issue. In this instance, we suggest to find that one and uninstall it to resolve the issue. Follow these steps to boot in Safe Mode:

  1. Turn the device off completely.
  2. Press and hold the Power button.
  3. Once the Samsung Galaxy S4 logo appears on the screen, release the Power button.
  4. As soon as you release the Power button, press and hold the Volume Down button.
  5. Continue holding the Volume Down button until the phone has completed the completed the reboot process.
  6. If you can read 'Safe Mode' at the bottom left corner of the screen, release the Volume Down button. Otherwise, repeat the process until you can boot the phone to Safe Mode.
Step 2: Wipe the System Cache Partition
If the WiFi and 4G icons still appears on your screen even in Safe Mode, then, it could be the outdated or corrupted files and data causing it. So, this time, we have to reset the cache directory of your phone so that newer caches will be created and compatible to the new system once it is loaded.
  1. Turn off the device.
  2. Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Down, Home and Power buttons.
  3. When the phone vibrates, let go of the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Down and Home buttons.
  4. When the Android System Recovery appears, release the Volume Down and Home buttons.
  5. Press the Volume Down button to highlight 'wipe cache partition.'
  6. Press the Power button to select. The phone will automatically restart after the cache is wipe.
After wiping the system cache partition observe closely if the icon still appears. If so, proceed to the next step.

Step 3: Reset your Galaxy S4
Since, all procedures failed to fix the issue the last option that you should do is to do a reset. The downside is, all your files and data saved on your phone will be lost like: contacts, photos, music and videos. So, before you have to follow the steps be sure to transfer all your files to your SD card or Personal computer so that you can easily restore all of it once the issue is fixed.
  1. Switch your phone off.
  2. Hold the Power, Volume Up and Power buttons at the same time. Release the Power button if the Android logo appears on the screen. This will bring up the unlock/reset menu.
  3. To navigate through this menu, use the Volume up/down buttons to scroll up and down and the Power button to confirm selections.
  4. Scroll down and select Wipe data/ Factory Reset.
  5. Scroll down and select ' Yes-Delete All User Data.' 
  6. When prompted, scroll to and select Reboot System now. The phone will then reset to its Factory settings.
