Quick fix on Samsung Galaxy S4 Google Play Store stops working after system update

One of the factors that app issue occur in the device is when the files and data had been outdated especially if the software had been updated. In this troubleshooting guide, I'll be dealing an issue sent to us by one of the Samsung Galaxy S4 owners complaining that the Google Play Store app is not anymore responding after the system update. So, what we have to do now is to investigate what caused it and consider all possibilities until we can formulate a solution and fix the issue.

Here are the steps that we would like you to do

Step 1: Wipe the System Cache partition
In this troubleshooting method, we have to eliminate the suspicion that corrupted system files and data caused the issue on your phone. We have to erase all old files and data stored in the directory so that compatible ones will be replaced and could run smoothly to the new system. Although there is no assurance if the issue will be fixed after you clear the cache partition but there were reports from other users saying that after deleting the old files and data in the system the device function normally. So, to wipe the cache partition follow these steps:

  1. Press and hold the following three buttons: the Volume Up, Home and Power buttons.
  2. Release the Power button when the phone vibrates but continue to press and hold the Home and Volume Down buttons.
  3. When the Android System Recovery appears, release both the Home and Volume Up buttons.
  4. Using the Volume Down button, highlight 'wipe cache partition.'
  5. Press the Power button to select the option.
  6. The phone will automatically restart once the cache data is wiped out.
After the method, use your phone again and observe closely if the Play Store app will function normally. If the issue still happening, proceed to the next step.

Step 2: Verify if the Play Store app is updated
Since, the issue still happening after wiping the cache partition, then we have proceed to next method by checking if the app is updated. Based on our experienced there were lots of reports from other users saying that after the app has been updated the Play Store app works normally again. That being said, here's how to check and update the app.
  1. From the Home screen, tap the Menu key.
  2. Tap Settings then More tab.
  3. Choose Application manager from the options.
  4. If necessary, swipe left or right to the appropriate tab; you need to choose the All tab.
  5. Scroll down a bit and find Google Play Store.
  6. Tap Google Play Store to open its manager.
  7. Tap Uninstall update button.
  8. Reboot the phone to make sure the change will be implemented.
  9. Run the Play Store again.
Step 3: Master reset your phone
However, after checking and updating the app but the app still not working there is a possibility that your device was bugged or experiencing a serious firmware issue. This time, your last resort is to reset your Galaxy S4 but before you can do that be sure to transfer all your important files to your SD card or personal computer because all of it will be deleted. This is how you reset your phone:
