Quick fix on Samsung Galaxy S3 fast battery drain issue

Battery draining issue is one of the most common problems that android users were always complaining. If the battery drains fast without any apps running in the background, then it is evident that the battery is defective and you can replace it to resolve the problem. However, if the battery is fine and its draining fast, it could be caused by number of apps running in the background. So, in this article, we have to isolate the issue by considering all possibilities to determine what caused the battery to function abnormally. Here are the methods that you should do:

Step 1: Do a soft-reset on your Galaxy S3
Assuming that the battery is fully-charge the first thing that you should do is to perform a soft reset or many called it "battery-pull" procedure. This method will close all apps running in the background and refresh the memory of the phone. So, if the issue is caused by number of apps running in the system, then the issue will be fixed after you do this method. After removing the battery of your S3, press the Power button for 15 seconds to release the electricity from the hardware components and put it back and power it on. While in this state, observe closely if the battery still drains fast. If so, proceed to the next step.

Step 2: Try to wipe the system cache partition
Sometimes, due to corrupted system caches the device is unable to run smoothly and might affect some of the features and caused some performance-related issues. So, this time, we will have to delete the temporary files stored in the directory so that newer ones will be created. Although there is no assurance that the issue will be fixed but there were reports from other users saying that after they performed the method the issue is gone. To begin, follow these steps:

  1. Turn off your Galaxy S3.
  2. Press and hold the following three buttons at the same time: Volume Up key, Home key and Power key.
  3. When the phone vibrates, let go of the Power key but continue to press and hold the Volume Up key and Home key.
  4. When the Android system recovery screen appears, release the Volume Up and Home keys.
  5. Press the Volume Down key to highlight 'wipe cache partition.'
  6. Press the Power key to select and wipe the cache.
  7. With 'Reboot system now' highlighted, press the Power key to restart the device.
If the battery is already functioning normally after the procedure, it is evident that corrupted caches caused the issue. However, if the problem persist after the method, jump over to the next step.

Step 3: Perform a reset on your phone
Since, the issue still happening after wiping the system caches the last thing that you should do is to perform a reset. You can create first a backup for all your important files by transferring it to your SD card or personal computer because all will be deleted once you proceed to the steps. Here's how:
  1. From the Home screen, tap the Menu button.
  2. Choose Settings.
  3. Tap on Accounts tab and choose Backup and Reset.
  4. Tap Factory data reset.
  5. Tap Reset device.
  6. Touch delete all.
But after the reset and the issue still persist, then your battery may be defective, you can purchased a new one or bring your device to the nearest shop in your area and let the tech check it for you.
