Samsung Galaxy Alpha Basics: Complete Guide on Customizing Home screen, Apps screen

If you are not satisfied with the default Home screen layout on your new Samsung Galaxy Alpha smartphone, then you can manage the Home screen and customize it the way you want.


Here's a simple guide for you to refer to, just in case you need assistance in personalizing the Home screen of your Galaxy Alpha.


A. Steps to Add items on the Home screen



1. Touch Apps from the Home screen, to open the Apps screen.

2. From the Apps screen, touch and hold an app or folder you want, and then drag it to the Home screen. If you want to add more apps or folders to the Home screen, just follow the same steps.

Aside from Apps and Folders, you can also add widgets to the Home screen. 

Here's how:

1. Get to the Home screen.

2. Touch and hold an empty area.

3. Touch on Widgets.

4. Now touch and hold a widget, and then drag it to the Home screen.

B. Steps to Move/Remove an item from the Home screen


Here's how to remove or move any unwanted items from the Home screen:

1. Get to the Home screen to get started.

2. Touch and hold an item you want to move, and then drag it to a new location.

3. If you want to remove an item from home, touch and hold on that item, then drag it to Remove section, located on top of the screen.

Hint:
You can move frequently-used applications to the shortcuts area at the bottom of the Home screen, to quickly access/launch the app.

C. Steps to Create a New Folder in the Home screen


You can also add a folder on the Home screen, for you to place certain app or file shortcuts. Here's how:

1. Go the Home screen.

2. Touch on Apps to open the Apps menu/screen.

3. Now touch and hold an app, and then drag it to Create folder section on top of the screen.

4. Next, enter a folder name. Please name the folder based on what its contents for easier identification/use.

5. Touch on the plus (+) sign.

6. Select the apps you want to move to the folder.

7. Touch Done after you've selected the apps you want to place in to your new folder.

D. Steps to Manage Folder and its Contents


After you create or add new folders, you can customize these folders based on your preference. Here's how:

1. Rename a folder - Name or change a folder's name as you desire.

Steps:
To do so, select a folder to rename, and then touch the existing folder name. Now enter a new name for the folder and touch Done when finished.

2. Change folder color - Recolor or change a folder's color as you prefer.

Steps:
Select a folder to recolor. After selecting the folder, touch on the Menu icon (represented by a three-vertical-dots sign), and then select a color you want to apply.

3. Move more apps - Placing more apps in a folder.

Steps:
To add or move more apps to a folder, simply touch and hold an app, and then drag it to the folder. You can also transfer or move an app from a folder to another location. To do so, select a folder, touch and hold the app you want to move or transfer, and then drag it to a new location.

E. Steps to Manage Home screen panels


You can add, move or remove a panel from the Home screen if you want. Here's how:

1. Go to the Home screen.

2. Touch and hold an empty area to move, add or remove a panel and do any of the following:

  • If you want to add a panel, just scroll left to the last panel, and then tap on the plus (+) sign.
  • If you want to move a panel, just touch and hold a panel preview and then drag it to a new location.

If you want to remove a panel, just touch and hold a panel preview and then drag it to Remove section located on top the screen.

You can also set a panel as the main Home screen. To do so, just touch on the Arrow Up icon.

More Tips on Customizing Galaxy Alpha Home screen


Aside from the Home screen, you too can customize and manage the Apps screen according to your preference. You can change the sorting method for add sorting, hide certain apps, or move apps to another folder.

A. Change Sorting Method


To change the sorting method, touch on Apps from the Home screen to get to the Apps screen. When you're already in the Apps screen, touch on the Menu icon (represented with a three-vertical-dots symbol). From the sub-menu items, touch on View as, then select a sorting method you want.

B. Hide Apps


If you don't want to see certain apps on the Apps screen, then just hide them. To do so, get to the Apps screen and then touch on the Menu icon. Now touch to select Hide apps from the list of sub-menu items. Select the apps you want to hide, and then touch Done.

If you want to display or view hidden apps, just touch on the Menu icon again, and then touch Select hidden apps from the list of sub-menu items. Choose the hidden apps you want to view, then touch Done.

C. Move Apps


If you want to transfer or move an app to a different location, touch Apps from the Home screen to get to the Apps screen. When you're in the Apps screen, touch on the Menu icon, and then select Edit. Next, touch and hold an app, then drag it to a new location.

You can also move an app/item to another panel by dragging the app to the side of the screen, or drag it to the Create Page section on top of the screen to move it to a new panel.

Note: Folders can only be moved within the folder panel.
