AT&T Galaxy S5 minor OTA Android 4.4.2 update rolled out

Samsung Galaxy S5 owners under AT&T network should expect to receive a small update anytime soon. The company started the roll out last week but it was only on Monday, Sept. 1st, that some owners received notifications about it.

While the size is relatively small at 142.8 MB, owners are advised to download and install it immediately as it fixes commonly reported Galaxy S5 bugs and problems like S-View errors, accidental emergency dialing while on the lock screen, mobile data and Wi-Fi issues, and sluggishness.

Aside from bug fixes, the update also brings improvement to the overall performance of the phone as well as enhancements to some applications. The company's changelog mentioned of security updates and patches but it didn't mention of any reported security flaw.

After the update, the Android version remains at 4.4.2 while the Kernel version is bumped to 3.4.0-2178781. The baseband will now display G900AUCU2ANG3.

It could be a minor update but it is recommended you download it via a stable Wi-Fi. Any interruption during the download and installation may cause problems. So, also make your phone has enough battery left to avoid complications.

It is a network-initiated update but owners can actually initiate by going to Settings > About device > Software update > Check for updates > OK. If there isn't any available updates upon checking, just wait it out as AT&T may be rolling it out in batches to minimize server load.
