Samsung Galaxy S5: "Unfortunately, TouchWiz Home Has Stopped" Error

"Unfortunately, TouchWiz Home has stopped."

This is the exact error message you'll be getting on the screen of your Samsung Galaxy S5 when TouchWiz, the custom interface for Samsung flagship phones, crashes. The problem may be triggered by a third-party app or when the firmware itself hangs for some reason.

In this post, I will cite troubleshooting procedures that were proven to work and fix this issue: Soft Reset and Safe Mode.

Soft Reset

If the error message pops up for the first time, it could be just a glitch in either firmware or the TouchWiz system. A simple soft-reset may resolve this problem, so that should be the first troubleshooting procedure you must do.

  1. While the Galaxy S5 is on, remove the back cover and then pull the battery out.
  2. Press the power button for 30 seconds.
  3. Place the battery back and the cover.
  4. Turn the phone on.

The purpose of this procedure is to refresh the phone's memory by draining stored electricity off the capacitors.

Safe Mode

At this point, if the Soft Reset procedure didn't work, you must isolate the problem whether it's caused by a third-party app or it's all TouchWiz. Booting to Safe Mode will temporarily disable third-party apps, so if the problem still persists while the S5 is in that state, the fault was caused by one of the pre-installed apps or core services.

In this case, try dismissing the error message and see if you can reach Settings. If you can, then go to Home screen mode > choose Easy mode > Apply. This will refresh the screen but if the issue continues after this, go to Application Manager, under the All tab find and tap TouchWiz. Clear its cache and data to reset it back to its default settings. But please note that you will lose all your Home screens when you do so.

More often, this problem stops here but if it continues, then there's no other option but to perform general troubleshooting procedures like wiping the cache partition and factory reset. Here is the guide I wrote that will walk you through effectively resetting your phone: Samsung Galaxy S5: Safe Mode, Wipe Cache Partition, Factory Reset [Complete Guide].

Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Notification Lights and their Meaning

Like Samsung flagship smartphones, the Galaxy Note 3 also has a LED indicator located in the top-left corner in the front panel of your phone. The indicator emits three primary colors: Blue , Red and Green . The main purpose of the LED indicator is to notify you of the current condition or status of your phone. For example, you missed a notification, the phone would emit light with a pattern to tell you about it without actually unlocking the screen. Believe it or not, it makes life a little easier if you knew the meaning of the colors and their rhythms.
