Samsung Galaxy S5: Basic and Advanced Internet Settings Guide

In your Samsung Galaxy S5, the Internet app is the web browser. The name was changed to make it even clearer for users what the app does. In this post, I will guide you through every setting available for the Internet app so you can configure the browser to your preferences.

Basic Internet Settings

Let's start, of course, with the basic settings but first, you should know how to access the Internet Settings screen:

1. From the Home scree, tap the Apps icon and then Settings.
2. Now tap Internet to pull up its Settings page.

There are three basic settings you can choose from:

• Account - tap this option to sign in to your Samsung account. By doing so, you will have an option to sync your bookmarks so you can open your pages with other Samsung devices.
• Set homepage - you can choose which page to show when you launch the Internet app.
• Auto fill forms - like any web browser, you have an option to auto fill web forms. This is very helpful for people who enter the same phrases or words more often.

Advanced Internet Settings

Let's now go to the Advanced Settings of your Internet app. This is the part where you can truly set the browser to work the way you want it to. To access the page, you just have to follow the same procedure...

1. From the Home scree, tap the Apps icon and then Settings.
2. Now tap Internet to pull up its Settings page.

Privacy - there are five options you can choose from under this setting

• Suggest search terms and Web addresses - the Internet app will predict related searches as well as popular websites when you type on the Navigation bar. The suggestions are based on the words you enter.
• Preload available links - this will dramatically improve your browsing experience as the browser will preload links from the cache.
• Remember form data - like the Auto fill forms in Basic Internet Settings, this option will also remember data you entered in Web forms so you don't have to re-enter them in the future.
• Remember passwords - the browser will locally save your username and the password associated with that account so you don't have to enter them the next time you log in.
• Delete personal data - you can actually choose which personal data you want to delete from your browser settings.

Screen and text - there are also five options you can choose from which will directly affect your browser's appearances including the font and text encoding.

• Text scaling - you can simply drag the slider to adjust the size of the font on the screen. 
• Force zoom - when this feature is enabled, the Internet app will override requests from websites to control zoom level.
• Text encoding - you can manually choose the type of text encoding you like or you can choose Auto detect to let the browser detect the type.
• Full screen - web pages will be displayed full screen hiding the status bar. Tap the screen to display it back.
• Text booster - the browser will automatically increase the size of text to make it easier for the owner to read, however, it may affect the screen layout.

Content settings - there are 9 settings you can choose from to control how the browser manages contents.

• Accept cookies - when enabled, the browser will allow websites to save and read cookies regardless of the type.
• Turn on location - some websites may be able to access your phone's location information.
• Turn on JavaScript - the Internet app will allow websites to run JavaScripts.
• Block pop-ups - this will indiscriminately block all pop-ups regardless of their nature.
• Default storage - you can set where you want the browser to save data. If you have a microSD card mounted, you can choose it to be the default storage.
• Website settings - this is only applicable to websites that offer advanced settings so if you've visited a site with this feature, you can set your preferences so the next time you visit it, the page will be displayed according to your liking.
• Turn on notifications - you can choose to be notified of Web notifications if you want.
• Clear notifications - remove Web notification access information.
• Reset settings - restore the browser’s default settings.

Bandwidth management - you can set the browser to manage data use.

• Preload webpages - you can set the browser to preload webpages all the time, only when connected to Wi-Fi, or never. Preloading of webpages will improve browsing time.
• Load images - this will instruct the browser to display or load images on web pages.
• Open pages in overview - when enabled, the browser will display newly-opened web pages in overview.
