Manage Samsung Galaxy S5 Motion and Gesture Settings

To set up various Motion activation services on your Samsung Galaxy S5, you need to configure the phone's Motion settings beforehand. Follow the steps below to walk you through the entire process of setting up different Motion activation services on your device.



Start here:
1. To get started, tap on the Apps menu from Home.
2. Continue by tapping on Settings.
3. To configure motion and gesture features, tap on the Motions and Gestures icon.
4. Once in the Motions and Gestures menu, locate and toggle the ON/OFF switch to turn the feature on or off (enable or disable).

Note:
You will need to turn on or enable a feature so you can configure options. Simply tap on the feature name to when it's already ON/enabled.

Following are the features and their options to configure on your device:

A. Air Browse - When this feature is enabled or turned On, you will be able to scroll between items such as photos, pages, or music tracks by simply moving your hand up and down, or left and right above the screen.

Just tap the ON/OFF switch to turn the feature ON and then proceed with the configuration of the following options:

  • The body of emails - If this feature is On or enabled, you will be able to use air browse to scroll through the body of emails on your device. 
  • Gallery - This feature (when enabled) will let you use air browse to move between pictures stored in Gallery.
  • Internet - When enabled or turned on, this feature will allow you to use air browse to scroll through a web page and move between windows or screens in the Internet app.
  • Music - Enabling of the music feature will let you use air browse to change music tracks on the Music screen.
  • Music on lock screen - As the name implies, this feature (when enabled) will let you use air browse to change music tracks on the lock screen.

B. Direct Call - When this feature is enabled or turned on, you will be able to lift the device towards your ear while viewing a contact to call the contact. To turn Direct Call feature on/off, simply tap the ON/OFF switch.

C. Smart Alert - Enabling this feature on your device will let you lift the phone to receive notifications of missed calls and notifications that transpired while the device was stationary or idle. To turn this feature on or off, simply tap on the ON/OFF switch.

D. Mute/Pause - If you turn on this feature, you will be able to mute incoming calls and pause playback by turning the phone screen side down. To configure Mute/Pause options, turn on the feature by tapping on the ON/OFF switch.

Below are the Mute/Pause options to configure on your device:

  • Covering screen with hand - this option when enabled, will let you mute the ring of incoming calls and alarms, as well as pause media playback by simply covering the screen with your hand.
  • Turning device over - enabling of this option will mute the ring of incoming calls and pause music playback by turning the device screen down.
  • Smart pause - with this option enabled, the phone will use its front camera to detect whether or not you are facing the screen. Look away and it will pause video playback.

E. Palm Swipe to Capture - With this feature enabled on your Galaxy S5, you will be able to save a copy of the current screen to the clipboard. This can be done by swiping the side of your hand across the screen. Don't forget to turn this feature ON first on your device. Just tap or toggle the ON/OFF switch to turn it on or off.
