Delayed Text Messages on Samsung Galaxy S5

More often when text messages are delayed, the network is to blame...but not always. That's what I actually learned after talking to some Samsung Galaxy S5 owners who had this kind of problem.

I did receive emails asking if there is an issue with the Galaxy S5's cellular reception or its messaging app. There's none--no bug, no glitch. I don't know exactly what happens but I know a couple of workarounds based on testimonies of owners who were able to fix the problem in their phones.

Here's a couple of emails I've received…

Hello Harold. You have a nice blog. By the way, my problem with my Galaxy S5 is that, the text messages don't come in real time. They may be an hour or two late. I've already noticed this problem after a month of owning the phone so I already alerted my friends and family that if ever they texted me and I couldn't respond, they should email me instead. So, almost every time, I would receive emails saying they sent text messages...and then the actual text messages come in an hour or two late. Is this a known problem with the phone or is it just the network? Thanks. Keep up the good work. -- Janice
Hi Harold. Good day to you! I got your contact from TheDroidGuy.com...was reading your column there. I have a slight problem with my new Galaxy S5. It seems that text messages are always delayed. I don't know what causes this or what I need to do. This is my first smartphone and I'm still learning to use it. It's a good phone but it loses its purpose if I can't use it to text my family and friends. Help me please. Thanks a lot! -- Georgina

Clear Cache and Data

It is almost expected that when an app malfunctions or glitches, you should clear both cache and data to reset it back to its default settings and delete unnecessary data that might have caused the problem. Such troubleshooting procedure is so common that many think it doesn't work so they never bother to do it.
  1. From the Home screen, touch the Applications icon.
  2. Tap the Settings icon, then scroll to Applications section.
  3. Tap Application Manager.
  4. Swipe left or right to display contents of All tab.
  5. Scroll to and tap Messages.
  6. Tap Clear Data button, then OK.
  7. Tap Clear Cache.
If this procedure won't work, then try the other one.

Increase Text Message Limit

This is the second workaround that actually works. All you have to do is open the Messaging app and access it Settings. You would be able to increase text message limit there. If you often receive messages, you won't be able to notice that you already have hundreds of them in one thread. So, increase the text message limit to 200 or higher.

Again, these procedures have been proven to work or fix this problem. However, if it persists after doing these, please call your service provider as it may be a network issue after all. Thanks for reading. And oh, for those who have problems, you can email me at harold@droidista.com.

Samsung Galaxy Note 3 Notification Lights and their Meaning

Like Samsung flagship smartphones, the Galaxy Note 3 also has a LED indicator located in the top-left corner in the front panel of your phone. The indicator emits three primary colors: Blue , Red and Green . The main purpose of the LED indicator is to notify you of the current condition or status of your phone. For example, you missed a notification, the phone would emit light with a pattern to tell you about it without actually unlocking the screen. Believe it or not, it makes life a little easier if you knew the meaning of the colors and their rhythms.
