Learn How to Manage Conversations on your Samsung Galaxy S5 [Here's how]

In the latest messaging technology on smartphones like the Samsung Galaxy S5, all text (SMS) and multimedia messages (MMS) that are sent to and receive from a contact will be grouped into conversations or message threads in the phone's Messages screen. These then appeared to be threaded text or multimedia messages that allow you to view all messages you've exchanged with a contact on the screen. The system concept is similar to that of a chat program.

A. Reading a Text Message

1. Tap the text message or conversation to open and read messages on the Messages screen.

2. If you receive a new message notification, you can slide your finger on the status bar going down. This will open the Notification panel.

3. To open and read a new message, tap on the message.

Hints:

  • You can view message details in the conversation by touching and holding the message. This will let you open the options menu. Tap on the View message details option.
  • If a message contains a Webpage link, tap the message and then tap the link. Doing so will open the link in the web browser.
  • If a message contains a phone number, tap the message and then tap the phone number. This will let you dial or add the number to your contacts.

B. Viewing a Multimedia Message (MMS)

1. To view MMS, tap on the Messages menu from the Home screen.

2. Tap a message from the message list. This will display the actual message content.

3. While the message is open, tap the play icon (if it is a video or audio file). This will play back the file. If it is a picture, tap an image to view it.

Hint:
You can save the file attachment on an MMS message to an optional installed memory card on your phone. To do so, simply touch and hold on the attachment and then tap Save attachment. Toggle to put a check on the attachment box and tap on Save.

C. Replying to a Message

1. To reply to a message, tap on the Messages icon from the Home screen.

2. You will then see a list of messages. Tap a message from the list to reply to.

3. Tap the Enter message field.

4. Type in your reply message.

5. Once the message is complete, tap on the Send icon to initiate sending of reply message.

D. Protect a Message from Unintentional Deletion

In order to keep a message safe from being accidentally deleted, you can lock a message, especially the important once. Here's how:

1. Tap on the Messages icon from Home.

2. Tap a conversation on the Messages screen.

3. Touch and hold the message that you want to lock.

4. On the options menu, tap Lock. You will then be prompted with a lock icon at the lower right hand corner of the message. This indicates that the message is locked.

E. Deleting a Conversation

1. Tap on the Messages icon from the Home screen to begin with.

2. Touch and hold the conversation you want to erase or delete.

3. Tap on the Delete icon.

4. Tap OK to confirm deletion of conversation.

F. Deleting Multiple Conversations

1. Tap on the Messages icon from the Home screen.

2. Tap on the Menu icon (represented by a grid-like sign).

3. Select Delete.

4. Choose the conversations you want to delete.

5. Tap Done.

6. Tap OK to confirm deletion of multiple conversations.

Hint:
You cannot delete locked messages unless you select the option that says, "Include protected messages." Just put a check mark on the check box next to the option before you confirm the deletion.

G. Delete a Single/Individual Message

1. Tap on the messages icon from the Home screen.

2. Touch and hold the message that you want to delete while viewing a conversation.

3. On the options menu, tap Delete.

4. You will be prompted with on-screen details/instructions. Simply follow the prompts to confirm deletion.
