Transfer Contacts from Samsung Galaxy S3 to Samsung Galaxy S5

One of the things you encounter when upgrading a phone is the hassle of transferring "everything" from an old phone to a new one. But thanks new technologies, tasks that were virtually impossible before can now be done with a single tap of a button. This post will guide you through transferring contacts saved locally on your Samsung Galaxy S3 to your new Samsung Galaxy S5.


Contacts saved in the clouds can easily be transferred by syncing your phone to respective servers like Google Contacts, Facebook, etc. So, they're not really much of a problem considering you only have to setup your account on Galaxy S5 and log into it and your contacts will be made available.

Exporting Contacts to SD Card


The first thing you have to do is to export all your contacts from your Galaxy S3. You will use your SD card to save a file that contains all contacts. To do so, follow these steps…
  1. Touch Contacts and then tap the Menu key.
  2. Choose Import/Export option.
  3. Now tap Export to SD Card.
  4. You will be prompted with a message, "Export contacts to file /storage/emulated/0/Contacts.vcf."
  5. Tap OK to confirm export.
After you exported your contacts, you can either send the file to via Bluetooth to your Galaxy S5 or simply insert the microSD card to your new phone. Just a note, if you send the file via BT (which will be saved in your phone's internal memory under Bluetooth folder), you need to move Contacts.vcf to your microSD card.

Importing Contacts from SD Card


Assuming you already saved the file Contacts.vcf to your Galaxy S5's microSD card, follow these steps to import your contacts:
  1. From the Home screen, tap the Apps icon.
  2. Scroll to and touch Settings.
  3. Scroll to Applications section and tap Contacts.
  4. Now tap the Import/Export option.
  5. Choose Import from SD card.
  6. Your contacts have now been exported.
