The new Samsung Galaxy S5 comes with two power saving modes: basic and ultra. The difference between these two is that the basic Power Saving Mode will just tone down the phone's performance while the Ultra Power Saving Mode will handicap the device turning on only necessary services.
This post will guide you through enabling both power saving modes.
Step 1: From the Home screen, touch the Apps icon and then choose Settings.
Step 2: Look for the Power Saving icon and touch it.
Step 4: On the next screen, you will have two options: Power saving mode and Ultra power saving mode.
Step 5: For this tutorial, let's setup both starting with the Power saving mode, so touch the first option and slide the toggle switch from OFF to ON.
Step 6: Touch Block background data to mark the checkbox. This option may affect the performance of some apps especially those that depend on mobile data to pull updates from their respective servers. Not only does your phone can conserve battery when background data is blocked, you can also trim down your data usage, which is a good option for people with capped data subscription.
Step 7: The second option is Restrict performance. When turned on, vibration feedback will be disabled and the screen will turn off after 3 seconds (instead of 10 seconds) when notifications are received. Under this option you can limit CPU performance, reduce screen frame rate and lower its brightness, turn the touch key lights off, and turn off GPS and all locations services.
Step 8: The third option is the Grayscale mode, which, when turned on, will tone down the phone's vibrant screen display into a dull grayish picture. AMOLED displays eat up much battery due to its backlighting and vivid colors.
Step 9: Now, the Ultra power saving mode has all the properties of the basic Power saving mode, but aside from that, it will disable a lot of usable apps leaving the phone capable of sending / receiving text messages, making / receiving calls and other basic things you can do on a basic phone.
